Moving is not something you can do over the weekend unless you have a few items. It requires weeks of planning to ensure you are ready and do it correctly. It can take longer than you think, so you should never wait until the last minute to start packing. There are things you can do months before the moving day to ensure you have little to do as the day approaches. This article is for people who have months to prepare before moving. If you are moving on short notice, you will have to do things earlier and quickly. Therefore, four months before moving, here is what you should do.

    Declutter Your House

Decluttering your house before a move is crucial to ensure you are only left with the necessary things. So, sort the items out and sell what you have to in a garage sale. You can also donate others to charity and throw away unwanted ones. So, avoid carrying excess items that will be charged more by decluttering.

    Create a Moving Checklist

After removing the unwanted items, create a list of the things left, starting with the most important ones. A moving checklist keeps you on track and indicates the time you need to complete a task. This way, you cannot leave a thing behind or rush when moving day comes.

    Research a Moving Company

One way to make moving less stressful is to go with movers. Professionals do most of the work for you, giving you ample time to relax or concentrate on other things. Therefore, you have much time to research and compare movers. You will come across a reliable and reputable mover like Molloy Bros. Moving that does a diligent job. So, go through everything and ensure you are settled with the mover. You can book them if you know the specific moving day.

    Get Estimates from the Movers

When you search for several movers, you want to know how much each will charge. This way, you can pick the one with the best package. Therefore, ask the movers to give you estimates depending on the items you want to be moved and the extra services you want to get. Research enough to get a reasonable price for your move. This way, you will know how much you will need to have when moving day comes.

    Gather Packing Supplies

Get packing supplies early enough. Your checklist will help you know the type of packing materials you need. Generally, you need boxes in different sizes, tape, bubble wraps, scissors, moving blankets, etc. You can get boxes from a retail shop or grocery store for free. Find everything you need early enough so that you stay organized.

    Start Packing Some Rooms

You can start packing the rarely used rooms and proceed as days go by. It may seem ridiculous to start packing four months prior, but it will save you from a lot of stress as the deadline approaches. So, decide the rooms you want to begin with and do it slowly and correctly.

    Wrapping Up:

You don’t need to wait till the last minute when everything is messy to start packing. The first rule of a stress-free and organized move is to start early. Therefore, begin preparing the moment you realize you will be moving.
