Mattress Donation: Letting Those in Need Use Your Old, But Functional Mattress

Deciding to level up and get a new mattress is a great idea. However, your plan must also include what to do with the old mattress. Whether you switch your mattress because a new model has caught your eye or you just want to let go of the used mattress that no longer gives you optimal back support, your old mattress may still be of use to other people.

You can decide to either donate your used mattress or have it recycled by a recycling company. Your decision depends on some factors such as the state of your mattress and your location. If you prefer to donate it, hire Recyc-Matelas mattress removal services, so the company can take the mattress to those who need it.

How to Know If It is Time to Get a New Mattress

In general, mattresses must be replaced every eight years. But some kinds of mattresses last longer than others. For example, a hybrid innerspring foam mattress can have a lifespan of ten years. Meanwhile, latex and memory foam mattresses can have up to 15 years of lifespan when properly taken care of. But to know if you must replace your mattress, you consider how it feels and the kinds of rest you get while you sleep on it. A good mattress still provides you with the comfort and support you get from before. It may make sense to let go of a mattress when you wake up feeling achy or tired every morning, you have difficulty sleeping because of how the mattress feels, and the mattress has noisy springs.

    Donating Your Mattress

Donating your mattress lets you do something meaningful for the less fortunate while making space for a new mattress. But this is only possible when your mattress is still in a good condition.

You do not want to donate a mattress with any type of infestation, particularly mold and bed bugs. Also, a mattress with jutting, broken, or bending coils is not usable. So, when you notice these problems on your mattress, you may want to consider having it recycled instead. In addition, do not donate your mattress if it has holes, tears, and rips. Make sure also that the mattress cover is attached before you donate it. A mattress that has stains must not be donated as well. You can try spot cleaning the mattress if it only has a small stain or two.
