Float switches are a type of liquid level sensor that is designed to monitor the circuit inside a tank when the level of liquid rises or falls. There are many different types of float switches available today, but their general purpose is to activate pump control panels.

They’re one of the most reliable and efficient devices that are used in a wide variety of industrial applications. Here are some factors you need to consider when you’re choosing float switches for tanks

    1. The Type of Tank

To find a float switch that will be most suitable for your application, you need to consider the type of tank you’re using. There are two common types of float switches: vertical and horizontal. Both of them are used to open and close circuits when they’re triggered.

If the float is attached to the top or bottom of the tank, you need to look for vertical float switches. But if the tank lid is closed, you may have to opt for a horizontal float switch.

    2. Length of Cable

The float switch you end up getting shouldn’t have a shorter cable you need to make a junction to make sure the cable reaches the desired level. Making a junction will cost a lot more than buying a float switch so you need to be especially mindful of the cable length.

    3. The Material

When you’re looking for the right float switch for your application, make sure you’ve selected a device that’s made with appropriate material. Corrosion won’t really be ani issue if you’re using it inside a water tank. But if you’re working with a solution, you need to take the compatibility of the materials into consideration.

    Final Words

It’s not easy to find the right float for your tank because there are so many options to choose from. Custom float switches are also available now that are made for specialty devices. Keep these 3 factors in mind to find the correct float switch for your application.
