10 Ways To Save Money On Your Central Air Conditioning Bill

Do you want to keep your home cool this summer without spending a fortune? Here are 10 ways to save money on central air conditioning in St. George or wherever you are:

    1. Get a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat can help you save money on your air conditioning bill by allowing you to set specific temperatures for different times of the day. This way, you can keep your home cooler when you’re not there, and turn the AC up just before you get home so that your house is already comfortable when you walk in the door.
    2. Use fans. Ceiling fans and portable fans can help circulate air in your home and make it feel cooler, so you don’t have to rely on the AC as much.
    3. Close blinds and curtains. Keeping your windows covered can help prevent heat from coming in and make your home warmer. Letting in natural light during the cooler hours of the day can also help heat your home for free.
    4. Reduce heat-generating activities. There are some activities that generate a lot of heat, like cooking or using the dryer. Try to do these activities during cooler times of the day, or use outdoor space if possible. You can also invest in a heat-resistant cooking surface that won’t add as much heat to your home.
    5. Insulate your home. Good insulation can help keep the heat out and the cool air in. If your home isn’t well insulated, you may want to consider adding some insulation to help reduce your air conditioning costs.
    6. Seal up leaks. Drafty windows and doors can let in hot air from outside, making your home warmer and causing your AC to work harder. Check for leaks around your home and seal them up with caulk or weather stripping to help keep the heat out. Have a professional check your home’s ductwork for leaks as well.
    7. Use shade. Planting trees or shrubs around your home can provide natural shade and help keep your home cooler. If you have a porch or deck, using an awning or umbrella can also provide some Shade.
    8. Upgrade your AC. If your air conditioner is more than 10 years old, it may be time for an upgrade. A newer, more efficient AC unit can save you money on your energy bills and may even pay for itself over time. Make sure to have a professional AC contractor do an energy assessment of your home to find the best unit for your needs.
    9. Reduce humidity. High humidity levels can make it feel warmer, even if the temperature is the same. Using a dehumidifier can help remove some of the moisture from the air and make your home more comfortable.
    10. Don’t wait until it’s hot to turn on the AC. Once the temperature outside starts to rise, your home will heat up as well. Turning on the AC before it gets too hot can help prevent your home from getting uncomfortably warm and can help you save money on your energy bills.

These are just a few of the ways you can save money on your central air conditioning bill. For more tips, contact a professional AC contractor in your area.
