Homes should be free from pests to maintain proper hygiene. These pests can cause allergies and health problems for people in the home.

Long-term prevention is vital in the place of short-term cures such as insecticides or pesticides.

Bug-free homes should be the goal for all homeowners. This is a very achievable goal with the right tools, techniques, and patience!

Don’t live with pests any longer! The following guide will show you how to eliminate any infestation that may occur in your home.

The guide provides easy-to-follow explanations on removing different pests and preventing new ones from entering your home.

    1. Extreme Vacuuming.

This may sound less than appealing, and you should consider this method if you have a carpet in your home. This will be the least costly way to rid your home of any unwanted pests that may enter your home.

You may want to use a HEPA-filtered vacuum that has more potent suction. This is because pests are sensitive to high airflow and will not withstand the force of a good vacuum.

    2. Steam Cleaning.

This method is best used in conjunction with the powerful vacuuming method. The steam cleaning method heats the water in high-pressure chambers, creating a powerful air force (steam). This air can easily extract all sorts of pests hiding out in any cracks and is especially useful for handling pest problems such as termites and ants.

    3. Insect or Animal Repellents.

Repellents can be sprayed outside of the home to discourage pests from coming inside or sprayed inside to scare away any critters that may have already entered.

Examples include novacide, garlic oil, peppermint oil, lemongrass oil, and organic mosquito repellent oils. These oils will deter insects and bugs from entering your home while in their dormant state.

Another option is to spray inside the home with a mixture of water and a few drops of eucalyptus oil. This will leave a smell that will repel pests.

    4. Treat the Outside of the Home.

The main areas to focus on are wood (where termites are likely to be present), garbage cans, eaves, gutters, or any other entry points that may entice insects or pests into your home.

You may want to spray ant hills with a mixture of water and vinegar. This mixture will kill the ants when they contact the mixture, discouraging them from entering your home.

After you have treated your outside area for bugs, it is important to ensure that you don’t leave any food out in the open. Pests are naturally attracted to food and will go wherever it is. If there is no food to be satiated with, they won’t bother coming into your home.

    5. Replace Pests’ Habitat with your own.

This method can be used in conjunction with the repellents mentioned above or alone. You can do this by creating an area of insecticide or pesticide in places that may be welcoming to pests—such as flower beds, leaves, and debris. You can create an area where pests will not want to enter by using a wire mesh frame and pouring a mixture of permethrin and diatomaceous earth into it.

The simple strategies can significantly help you to rid your home of any unwanted pests and keep your home safe for everyone to live in.

The process of cleaning and organizing your home should be a priority if you want to rid yourself of any pest problem. Some homes may also have issues with clutter, which hinders cleanliness, while in other homes, there may be features such as water damage or mold, making the home more appealing to unwanted pests.
