What You Need to Know About Artificial Grass

Having a turf outside your home with real and natural grass can be hard to maintain in the long run, and a perfect alternative for it is to get artificial grass for your yard instead.

Aside from the little to no maintenance requirement of fake lawn like in Melbourne, in which residential areas with artificial turfs are growing in number, here are some other things you should know:

    TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL GRASS

Due to technology, artificial grass has evolved over the decades from its obviously fake-looking appearance to today’s naturally like beauty. There are three common types of artificial grasses:

    1. Nylon Artificial Grass – known as the most durable and long-lasting yet also the most expensive one.
    2. Polyethylene Artificial Grass – has that realistic look and texture along side with its perfect softness for play areas and zones.
    3. Polypropylene Artificial Grass – least expensive and least durable out of all the choices and is suitable for smaller areas.

    PROS AND CONS

Artificial grass has both positive and negative characteristics, just like many other things.

    PROS

    1. It’s almost maintenance-free. It doesn’t require any mowing, fertilizing or aerating.
    2. Because it is green all year, it is considered evergreen. You can choose the color of your artificial grass.
    3. It appears real because it closely resembles grass with yellow-colored blades, which simulate thatch.
    4. Artificial grass can last up to 20 years if it is maintained properly.
    5. Artificial grass does not need to be watered, so you can save money.

    CONS

    1. Artificial grass can heat up quickly under the sun and can become unbearably hot.
    2. Artificial grass can be as abrasive as real grass and isn’t as soft as natural grass. Artificial grass is harder for children to land safely on while playing.
    3. Artificial grass can also cause environmental damage, since it is difficult to recycle even though it uses very little water.

Artificial grass is a great option for your home, especially if you want something that is easy to take care of and maintain but is long-lasting at the same time.
